A little escape from the world. My mom, daughter and I really enjoyed our tour. Great tour guide. Our favorite part was the old window Christmas displays. We went home feeling so happy and glowing from our experience here. Great job!

We had such an amazing time. As someone who absolutely loveeeesss Christmas, I definitely recommend this place! We drove about 4 hours to get here and it was definitely worth it. You can just feel like Christmas spirit as soon as you walk through the door. We are definitely coming back next year and the year after that. The staff here is amazing. Every room is unique and you can tell a lot of thought was put into each arrangement. They don’t just have Christmas items up. Each item is unique and special and you can tell it is treated with care! I can’t stress enough how lovely this place is. Mark Klaus is like a real life Santa Claus giving people the gift of Christmas. I’m truly grateful for this place and all of the wonderful staff! Thank you so much!

Such an Amazing time for all of us. I love the whole setup. The gift shop has a wide variety of things to choose from. Upon entry/starting you are able to enjoy a purchased adult beverage during the tour/visit. So much to learn and see. We had a blast!

The river is a top destination for steelhead anglers, noted as one of the United States’ top 50 fishing areas. TourScanner: 57 Fun & Unusual Things to Do in Cleveland, Ohio

Phenomenal park with a nice nature center as well as stairs up to an observation area (see photos). You can also take a more leisurely stroll along a gentle curving path to get up to the observation area. It’s gentle enough that we made it with a stroller without an issue. Great area to take your dog for an outdoor jaunt – leashed, of course.
Beautiful sights and a great place to feel in touch with nature while in close proximity to the city.

First time to Rocky River Reservation in quite awhile and definitely first time during the Winter. Enjoyed the trails and plenty of opportunities for all the photographers out there for great photos.

The Rocky River Reservation is an excellent place to visit! You can stop at the many different parking areas to get out and view the river or falls. We got to see otters, deer, and groundhogs while we drove through the long Reservation. The park overall was quiet, felt safe and had plenty of restrooms along the route. This park is excellent and I would highly recommend going there!

Findley State Park

A forested park with trails for hiking & mountain biking, a boating lake, campsites & a few cabins.

Slide 1 of 3

Beautiful park with some spacious full hookups! Lots of primitive camping as well. Beach, boat rental, trails & even a storybook trail for little readers! Can be a tad wet if you’ve had an abundance of rain. 🌧

We only camped 1 night in a 26′ travel trailer in site 210. It was a great looking and all the power worked well. Sites are a comfortable size. They appeared to be celebrating Halloween just before or after the Tuesday we were there. The shower/bathroom/laundry building was clean and the bathroom worked fine.

The only thing to complain about was the smell wafting over from the pit toilet.

One of the best campgrounds around. Nice lots and a great lake to kayak on.

Unexpected tourist stop on I 71 that has become a destination for many. Such a delightful surprise! Reminiscent of a small town farmers market, offering nostalgia and homemade candies, fudge, jams, spreads, meats, tons of cheeses, snacks, gifts, etc. The atmosphere is friendly and the entire place is clean and well kept. Tons of free samples and a cafe ready to make you a fresh sandwich. If you’re a cheese and candy lover, this place is Heaven on earth!

This place is really neat. First off it’s easy to get to from the interstate and there’s plenty of large vehicle parking.

They’ve got a few buildings to check, but you should start with the big one. Huge selection of all sorts of food. Cheese, meats, snacks, jelly, sauces, I could go on and on. They’ve got a small restaurant that serves a perfect lunch. Mostly sandwiches.

The other building we went in had candy galore. Lots of unique stuff.

Well worth the stop for sure!!!

So many different types of cheese! If you love cheese, this is the place to go. They also have a nice selection of meat sticks, butters, teas and crackers. The chocolate store has lots of chocolate and delicious fudge. The staff was very friendly and helpful and the place was clean. We’ll definitely be visiting again some time.

Slide 1 of 3

Loved this beach!!
Beautiful view of the Huron Lighthouse.
Beach was clean & not crowded.
Public bathroom & showers close by. Floats, kayaks, beach chair & umbrella rentals available.
$6 parking for all day

I loved this quiet public beach. There are lots of informative signs, some cute places for photo shoots, tables and grills, on site rentals and merchandise, a playground and volleyball court, along with outdoor showers and toilets. Yes, all these conveniences yet a smelly outhouse as the only relief. As much as I love the place, I gotta take away the star. If it was an overall barren location I’d let it be, but a place so otherwise lovely would serve its patrons well with a personal hygiene area competitive with the twenty first century.

Beautifully maintained beach. Great volleyball courts, changing rooms were clean and private, even the portapotties were clean. Was so nice to relax with the whole family, next time we are in the area we will for sure come back. The little snack shop was well stocked with everything you might need at a beach as well. There’s a shower to rinse off with which we were grateful for after playing on the playground before heading out on our next adventure.

Unfortunately the trip to the top was closed because of covid, but the rotunda was open and really something to see and understand. The peace between the US, UK, and Canada we kinda take for granted today, but there definitely was a time when such a thing wasn’t guaranteed. Really awesome to see it and read the different displays. So cool!

A must visit place in Put-In Bay. The view from the top of the observatory was awesome! The park rangers were friendly and helpful. The ticket to the top of the tower was $10 for adults. It takes around a minute in a classic old elevator to reach the top. The rangers will be there to explain the brief history. In the top there are information boards and also the guards who can explain the view and the information about the islands in sight.

Great views from the top! Inside the moment there’s a nice history of the monument and the area. It’s right next to the Lake Erie shoreline so it’s very scenic.

Slide 1 of 3

Don’t let the smoke stacks cloud your judgment of this park. It has so much to offer!

Miles of scenic trails for birdwatching, running, walking and biking. The trails I hear will be getting some much needed work to ensure a safe and smooth trek.

There are many fishing piers and access points to kayak the waters in and around the park.

For Boat Nerds, you can watch great lake freighters out on the horizon. If you’re lucky, you may see them pulling into the River Raisin just south of the park.

The sunrises and sunsets are gorgeous and beautiful and the pops of color are amazing.

If I have on complaint, it’s the human factor on the Beach. Please don’t litter. There are many garbage receptacles. We can do better.

This state campground has some full hook up sites. Campground is clean and the camp host was receptive when we told here there was standing water by our water spigot possibly indicating a leak. It’s nice to be able to explore the beach on Lake Erie but wear your shoes as there are dead fish, shells, branches, and garbage. There is a paved, 4 mile trail which circles some lagoons.

Not the biggest beach, but there is plenty of parking and a big swimming area. Ample grills to cook if you want to make a day of it. There is also a fishing area, boat launch, campground and trails, if you enjoy any of those activities. If you are in the area and want to get back to nature, definitely give it a shot.

This is a excellent museum with great information and displays. For someone visiting the Great Lakes for the first time, this was a great primer and perfect for a few hours. The models of historical ships, boiler steam propulsion and Coast Guard history were all highlights.

The interactive displays were engaging and fun for kids of all ages. Some of the displays left me wanting more backstory and the intro video, although beautifully presented, could be so much more. I look forward to returning in the summer to tour the Schoomacher.

Really neat place! This is something in my own hometown that I had never experienced before. Such a unique spot to be taken. The museum had lots of interesting bits of history and getting to go on the actual boats was so awesome. Probably not a place for huge parties or small kids because it’s a lot of historical things and small areas inside. The stairs are also a little bit difficult to maneuver but seeing how old everything is I definitely understand why. Everyone should visit here at least once in their life.

We had so much fun when we took our kids and nephew to Imagination Station. I am so pleased that they have the option to purchase a membership because that is exactly what we are going to do. They even had a quiet room in the children’a area if anyone was overstimulated and needed a break. There is food, beverages, a gift shop, indoor & outdoor activities so much to do indoors and even a beautiful view from the inside out. Fun for all ages! 🙂

So fun for kids tiddler to elementary school! The toddler area is fantastic and all the exhibits are educational and fun! Keeps their minds working without them even knowing! And I highly recommend the 3D theater. So cool and with 20 minute run times, even little ones don’t get to antsy!

I haven’t visited this place in many years. There were a lot of cool stations that engage the kiddos in learning about the world around them ans how things work. My only recommendation would be to pack some snacks. The food choices were slim. Not sure if the pandemic and supply shortages is to blame for that or not?

It was a bigger museum than I expected and curated well. The inside layout is a bit confusing but you can see a lot. You get a lot of hope for good items when you first walk in and see the Van Gogh and Monet right away, but that was about it. There was a small Rodin Thinker as well. All in all, a good time, and worth a visit if you are in the area

The Toledo Museum of Art has so much to offer for engagement and wedding photo locations! I much prefer the outdoor locations so I do not impede on museum-goer experiences, but they are so good you won’t even miss the indoor spots! There are marble columns for some classic and regal-looking photos and then there are pathways surrounded by unique art. My favorite spot is this cool metal building/wall. Rainy or bad weather? The Glass Pavilion is a very cool spot right across the street.

Went to see the traveling Age of Armor exhibit that is currently on display. It was wonderfully laid out with an available audio tour. How ever long you think you’ll be there, add time. There’s much to see.

Water & Amusement Parks

Unpretentious rooms inside a lively water park offering a restaurant/bar, a pool & a gym.

Slide 1 of 3

I went just over this week for one day. The staff was very friendly, made sure that everything was just right and answered all of my questions that I had. For the ticket price, it was amazing. For less then $100, I was able to take my family on a nice day trip to the water park. As for the actual water park, it was very clean, and very kid friendly. For older kids, it might get boring a little quick, but it was great for my family. I loved our time that we spent there and I highly recommend!

Great for a birthday party! Park is clean and well staffed. Slides are fun; water is warm & crystal clear. Food is delicious but pizza is comparable to Little Caesar’s hot & ready. Go early for best seating and locker rental.
Wonderful for a family outing no one will forget.

Pretty great!! Their water park is super fun, and everyone is nice! Food isn’t that great, but there are a lot of restaurants around. The water slide are great, and the lazy river is so fun!! I came here with some younger cousins (ages 1-4) and they had a blast! There’s something there for everyone!! Great place, and super fun for a get away weekend, or party with friends!

Cabela’s

Sporting goods store

Shopping

Retail mainstay stocking a huge inventory of hunting, fishing & camping supplies, plus boats & ATVs.

Slide 1 of 3

Absolutely huge store with everything you could want when exploring the outdoors. The prices seem reasonable and you can find discounted items inside. Aside from all the items for sale there is a mini-mountain in the center of the store decorated with animals and a waterfall. Another big attraction is the giant statue out front of two bears fighting.

Awesome sporting goods store and far better than Bass Pro Shop! So much to see and do in including an aquarium and animal exabits. Everything you’d need whether it be hunting, home defence, coats, and just about everything else Cabela’s has it! Very easy to get lost it’s such a huge store! Fun to just walk around and look and at everything!

Beautiful store with so many stuffed animals on display. Huge selection of everything outdoors, camping, fishing, camouflage, clothing.
Prices are in line with this type of store-expensive. Bit then I was only there to browse, there wasn’t anything I needed or wanted.

My favorite week of the year is for the August race. I’ve been camping on and off for 20 years, started in Northfield and the last 15 in Brooklyn Trails. I enjoy the atmosphere, many neighbors are the same year to year. Upgraded to the Champions Club in 2021 and it is worth every penny. Great food and air conditioning, nice seats with a good view.

We made it to the Nite Lights at the end of the season, and it was great! This is a drive-through light display. Over 4 miles of lights are displayed with their own radio station featuring trivia and Christmas music. If you didn’t make it this year, add it to your list for next year – it’s definitely worth going!

Went to the race in August. The seats were kinda steep at first, but once you walk up and down many times you get used to it. Amazing, loud race!

Love this place! We try to make it here at least once every year. It’s everything you imagine a drive-in should be. However the bathrooms are a constant problem (none flush/overflow) and the hand soap/sanitizer dispensers needed filled. Other then that, a great time!

Great way to watch a film or two. Excellent family night out. Good snack options.

FireKeepers Casino Hotel

Modern space for classic table games & slots in a resort-style hotel with restaurants & bars.

Slide 1 of 3

We were there on a Saturday afternoon and evening. FireKeepers has so many slot machines it was never an issue getting on one to be able to play. A lot of different varieties of machines. Something for everyone. Only played slots, so I can only comment on those. Lots of fun!

Great place to go normally. However this time half of their games were not working! I was very surprised. However it was a good time. Even though I never get lucky here! Hopefully you will have better luck than me! Definitely recommend it after they fix all their games! Good luck hope yours is better than mine!

Came up for a romantic getaway and had a great experience. We love roulette and was a little disappointed that only two tables were open but the wait wasn’t long at all. The room was great, including the view. The Staff was friendly, from check-in to the security staff. The location is right off the highway which is convenient.

Binder Park Zoo

433-acre zoo features 600+ specimens with a tram between exhibits & an opportunity to feed giraffes.

Slide 1 of 3

Went on the second to last day of the season, loved it, the animals look like they’re well taken care of, loved the zebra tram, the African section of the zoo, there were some peacocks walking around the zoo. Loved that you can see the bears, lions and other animals up close. Very clean and great employees, I just wished we had gone earlier in the season, will definitely be back in summer 😀

This is a really underrated zoo. My family loves to go to different zoos and for the mid-sizes zoos we have been to, this was one of the better ones in my opinion. The views in the lower savannah area with the zebra, giraffes, ostrich is one of the coolest views I have seen. The zoo is very spacious, so if you are up for some exercise, make the walk, I did but the rest of my family took the trolley. The walk is definitely not easy. Also the Zebra feeding area is too high so the kids had to feed the giraffe through the fence. Definitely would consider making the trip up to this zoo again in the future.

Great place to spend a day the animals were active my kids loved it and is mostly handicap accessible we have someone with a wheelchair and we went through the entire zoo we had a little trouble in the Africa part but were warned well. Getting in was quick even on a busy day feeding the giraffes was an awesome experience for my kids we all had a fantastic trip.

Air Zoo Aerospace & Science Museum

State-of-the-art museum pairs rare aircraft with flight simulators & 4D theaters plus amusements.

Slide 1 of 3

We went on a family outing here and had a great time. We went during the week so it was not busy at all which allowed for a more leisurely walk through the museum. There were exhibits, interactive learning stations, and rides. It has something for all ages. I appreciate that the museum makes a effort to highlight minorities and women for their contributions to aviation. We watched a movie on women’s suffrage in the theater. We are planning another trip to be able to spend more time. We spent about 2 hours and could have spent more.

This place is very unique and enjoyable for all ages. The kids love coming here because they have some really cute, clean, safe rides that they can enjoy. The lines are usually very small or even now wait. They keep the place very clean and tidy. The staff are friendly. There are so many things to do here. There are a lot of things that you can look at, some things to play with, some things to ride in, a movie theater, and a good mix of everything. I definitely recommend checking this place out! We bought a membership and the membership even gives you discounts on other museums.

This air museum is beautifully constructed and each mural is painstakingly painted. The items in the museum are well taken care of, the information, the guides, the exhibits. You can’t come to this air zoo without feeling something about the amount of history you visually see. The aircraft alone can take your breath away, just imagining the machine when they were in their hayday and the lives that were changed from wars and tours. There are sections of the museum that will open your eyes to what some of the young men and women who served in wars and what they endured. This place bring you as close to the machines as possible. You get the insiders perspective from the outside. We have gone here a couple times and each time we walk away with more information and appreciation.

With COVID still lingering social distancing is a must and mask wearing highly recommended. We went as soon as they opened and it was wonderful the lack of people made the experience of viewing the aircraft very intimate and the solitude very peaceful. We didn’t feel rushed nor felt the need to engage except for the occasional button to press. They sanitize the exhibits regularly for those being touched and also have the cafe open should you get hungry. I recommend the caesar salad is was generous in portion and very delicious. My son had the turkey sandwich which was also a great portion. We purchased our meals ahead which was nice as once it turned lunch time we were hungry and the items were ready.

The staff were amazing and helpful and just like anything else in this time frame be patient as low staff does affect businesses. I would recommend spending at least 4 hrs to seeing it all and go back in time from the exhibits. You will thank yourself for taking the time to appreciate the past.

Well maintained museum with friendly and helpful staff! Quite glad to see COVID protocols being implemented effectively. I had made an appointment online prior to my visit, however, they do take walk-ins as well, which may be limited based on occupancy. Planetarium is very good too, with decent sound quality and clear displays, with staff ensuring social distancing while assigning seats (always safer to book in advance). Watched the Cosmos Odyssey, which was added recently, which is informative and interesting even for adults! Had planned to visit the 3rd level where they have a Mummy display, but were told that museum would close soon after the planetarium show and so, missed that. Overall, a very good experience and kids would definitely love this visit.

Very nice museum. I wish there was more interactive play, but because of covid it looks like a lot got put away. We saw the planetarium show, One world One sky featuring Elmo and big bird. My kids loved it. Definitely worth going every once in awhile to see the newest exhibits!

I took my girlfriend and daughter and we had a good time. The cute little interactive stuff just amazed my daughter. There was a lot of stuff unavailable or in transition that we didnt get to see but what we did see,.we enjoyed!

Surfari Joe’s Indoor Wilderness Water Park-CLOSED

Water park

Water & Amusement Parks

Safari-themed indoor water park at the Fairfield Inn & Suites features 2 large water slides.

Slide 1 of 3

This is a hidden gem! It was wonderful and there’s so much for the kids to do. We enjoyed the water slides & especially the lazy river. The Cafe wasn’t open despite it being a busy weekend (went in January, 2020). Nicely located and adjoins to the hotel. The hotel had a really nice breakfast that was included and had a full array of breakfast food & beverages. I didn’t care for the pool life jackets and would probably see if you can bring your own for smaller kids.

I’ve been calling there for several months and the water park is still closed. I doubt the arcade is up and running yet either. I’ve been really wanting to take my Kids there but unfortunately after this long and always getting excuses about the water park needing parts and they still haven’t came in yet tells me that it’s more than likely never going to reopen. Everything I call whichever month it is they always say they expect it to be ready at the end of the month. Yeah okay! Also management doesn’t answer emails

The place is completely shutdown. They told us for renovations but there was not a single renovation going on. Still charged three hundred a night. No cleaning service as well. The staff was the only good thing there. They are all completely wonderful but whoever owns this thing is using covid to the extreme to make money and provide no services. Other hotels in the area at least have a pool open and are serving hot breakfasts. Look around, better hotels in the area offering more.

Wine was phenomenal. Staff was extremely helpful and friendly in helping us with wine selection. Got 2 flights each ( 6 pours each) for $24. Was able to mix and match wines, spirits, and beer as well which many establishments don’t allow. Wine was fantastic. Highly recommend and I don’t understand why this place sits at a 4 star rating.

My wife and I love supporting Michigan made products and decided to try the Blueberry flavored wine. I myself am not a wine drinker, my wife had not even a half of a glass and later started to feel horrible. Everyone in the home had the same meal while my wife added a glass of wine, she started complaining of severe stomach pains and subsequently ended up hovering over the toilet for several hours throwing up. Maybe the blueberries went south, unfortunately this will be the only experience we will have with Round Barn Winery.

Silver Beach Carousel

Amusement park ride

Water & Amusement Parks

Classic restored merry-go-round with painted animals & music from a vintage band organ.

Slide 1 of 3

What a magical day we had! My son’s first carousel ride. We reserved a ticket in advance for the one hour slot. We rode every ride for the entire hour and my son was so excited and overjoyed. The staff is amazing, kind, knowledgeable, friendly, caring, and fun! The carousel is in such impeccable shape. Do this, and then head to the beach for a dip – you won’t regret it!

We had our wedding reception at the Shadowland Ballroom and rented the carousel for one hour during the event. It was FANTASTIC!

The staff is great to work with and were excellent communicators leading up to the event.

We had 150 guests (all older than 21) and the carousel was a hit. We did our rental from 8:00-9:00pm, so right after we finished dinner at 6:45, we did the first dance, mother / son, father / daughter dances, and went straight out to the carousel to do our professional photos before opening it up to guests.

I liked that timeline because guests could get a drink or two in them first before enjoying the ride. Photos on the carousel did take longer than I expected, so the full hour was pretty necessary.

If you’re debating whether or not to book the carousel for your event, I recommend you go ahead and do so. It’s super fun! And as a bonus they give you 60 free ride tokens at the end. We’re including them in our thank you cards!

Ben Pancoast was our photographer and did an INCREDIBLE job!! Bridesmaids dresses on Rent the Runway, hair and makeup Hanna Wagner Design out of Grand Rapids.

A must visit!!! One of the absolute coolest carousels in the country, maybe the world! A ride is affordable and a lot of fun. The carousel is very well maintained, structurally sound, authentic and quite festive. The line is never too long and there are plenty of fun things to look at and interact with while waiting. Often times, they will also have bean bag toss (cornhole) and side walk chalk right outside the surrounding glass doors. The carousel is also attached to the Curious Kid’s Museum Discovery Zone, which is great for kids ~age 2-6. Bathrooms are VERY nice and clean.

Warren Dunes State Park

Beech & maple-forested park provides peaceful riverside hikes, picnic space & 311 acres of terrain.

Slide 1 of 4

Made a plan of hiking here Saturday morning of a trip to get the day started. I was sorely mistaken on how easy I thought this hike was gong to be. We choose to do the rectangle loop beginning at Nature Trailhead and walking down to the beach and back around. The dunes were awesome to hike! We got a tad lost trying to get back to our car because there aren’t many signs near the beach area. We thought it would be a five mile trail walk and ended up taking 2 hours and burned 800 calories. Overall, 10/10. Bring water and wear sunscreen! Saw a few people other and about, but it wasn’t super packed for a nice day.

Really loved this beach! Took a day trip from Chicago (took about 1.5 hour without tolls) to enjoy the nice weather. It’s chillier and windier on the beach than in the park, so I’d recommend being prepared for that. However, the beach was clean and surprisingly long with plenty of spots to hang out. The sand was soft on the beach and dunes, and the parking lots were equally large, providing generous parking capacity. Restrooms were clean and right between the beach and the parking lot. Admission to park for me (non-resident) was $10 and there’s re-entry the same day. I can see this place really being a great getaway from the city during the summer, and if it were warmer, going in the lake would be quite refreshing. Highly recommend!

This was the first State Park where there was an honor system self pay box. Please make sure you put your payment in the slotted square post behind the envelope holder, not back into the envelope holder.

It was a little confusing at first but we got it figured out. The park pass is only $10 so make sure you have change, money order or a check.

The receipt and window display can be detached from the envelope and kept.

Visiting Warren Dunes was totally worth the perplexity.

Parking was a breeze. Beach access is appx 100 yards down from the parking lot. Camping is permitted. There are plenty of new restroom facilities and a gift shop along the Dunes.

Last but not least, Warren Dunes is absolutely beautiful!!

Disclaimer: dont normally spend much time at casino’s.

I do think this casino is very nice and well kept. Everything is well finished and clean. It does not smell saturated with smoke. There are very nice restaurant/ bar options. The buffet has great prime rib Saturday’s! The casino does a great job decorating for the holidays and making transitions!
